The sound of a happy new year was coming out of the lips of the participants as they were excited to see Itsekiri NextGen team for the first time in the year 2023.
Some parents and guardians also came to wish the team a happy new year. The team also reciprocated the gesture.
Everyone came together and sat according to their team. Then the opening prayer was delivered by the coordinator. This was followed by a recitation of the Itsekiri National Anthem.
The coordinator of Itsekiri NextGen addressed the participants and admonished them to be serious, be of good behaviour and be consistent in their attendance of, and engagement with the programme.
The participants were reminded that for a participant to continue to participate in the programme, he/she must meet at least 75% attendance, otherwise, such participant will be asked to discontinue.
The ground rules were displayed on the screen for all to see, with explanations given to each of them.
Itse Mirabel Ukubeyinje reminded them that the team is here to help improve their literacy skills and make them tech-savvy with digital/ICT training. Furthermore, they will build up their leadership and economic skills and also make them vast with social and cultural skills and values.
The participants were asked to share how they spent their Christmas holiday. Some representatives from each team came out to share how they spent their holiday. The participants were eager to hear how the volunteers spent their holiday.
Itse and Uwala told them about the hangout they had at Falcorp mangrove park with some online friends. The participants wish to be there sometime this year. The coordinator told them only those participants with good behaviour will be allowed to go there for a hangout.
