Summary:
The April Edition of Book Review took place on the last Saturday of April as scheduled. Participants were given books to read, and they later shared their reviews during the session.
Session Highlights:
The session commenced promptly at 10:00 am with an opening prayer followed by the Itsekiri anthem.
The coordinator began by presenting the cash earnings to the participants whose beads were sold. Two of her beads had been selected and sold through social media, earning her two thousand naira. She expressed gratitude to the coordinator, volunteers, and steering committee for bringing this project to her neighbourhood and pledged to give the money to her mother.
Next, the volunteers distributed the books to the participants for reading. They were given one hour to read, and some chose to read together in teams, while others read individually or in pairs. Participants who finished early used the remaining time to revise their books before the presentation.
During the presentation, each participant formally introduced themselves, their team, and the book title before sharing their insights about the book.
Tosan Ejuoghanran was the first presenter and delivered a seamless review that left everyone feeling as though they had read the book themselves.
A duet presentation was conducted by Rosemary and her partner, who had clearly prepared well. They executed their review flawlessly, seamlessly switching between speaking parts.
Laju and her partner also delivered an outstanding presentation, impressing a visitor present at the event, who remarked on the children’s exceptional abilities.
The overall book review session was highly engaging, and several participants expressed their interest in presenting in future editions. Even a participant who struggled with stuttering bravely shared a review of his book to the best of his ability, inspiring the entire team.
The session concluded with the team feeling excited and motivated. It was agreed that the next edition of the book review would be even better.
Areas for Improvement:
One noticeable issue during the session was that most participants arrived late, causing a delay in the start of the event. To ensure the smooth running of future sessions, it is essential to encourage punctuality among participants.
Conclusion:
Overall, the April Edition of the Book Review was a resounding success, with active participation and insightful presentations from the attendees. The Itsekiri NextGen Project continues to thrive, and with each session, it fosters a love for reading and learning among the younger generation.
