Summary:

The 18th session of the Itsekiri NextGen Project focused on the art of delivering an elevator pitch to enhance the self-confidence of the participants. The event saw active engagement from 60 attendees, with 4 dedicated volunteers supporting the session.

Session Delivery:

The session commenced with a serene opening prayer by Jolomi Tedeye, followed by the soulful rendition of the Itsekiri anthem. A brief recapitulation of the previous session emphasized the significance of reading books.

Weyinmi Igbineweka took the stage to enlighten the participants about elevator pitches, including how to create one effectively, the key elements of a good elevator pitch, and its importance. The session was divided into several parts:

  1. Participants were trained on introducing themselves and swiftly connecting with others while conveying key points.

The benefits of the session included building self-confidence, enhancing public speaking skills, and providing opportunities to sell ideas or businesses to potential investors and stakeholders.

  1. Video clips were shown to facilitate faster comprehension, followed by a drama illustration where participants showcased their learning with guidance from the facilitator.
  2. In the final part, the participants put their newfound knowledge into practice by presenting their pitches to a panel of three judges: Uwala Tedeye, Jolomi Tedeye, and Emmanuel Egbe.

Each team had a specific task to complete:

  • Team Ikenwoli had to persuade the judges to patronize their refreshment supply. They scored an impressive 80% for their presentation.
  • Team Atuwatse II aimed to secure the contract for cleaning the Itsekiri NextGen environment and earned a commendable 75%.
  • Team Ginuwa II focused on outlining their strategies to promote Itsekiri NextGen and received 50%.
  • Team Erejuwa II delivered a compelling pitch for supplying good quality palm oil to Itsekiri NextGen and achieved an outstanding 95% score.

The challenging session presented a unique experience for the participants, who expressed a desire for more similar opportunities.

At the conclusion of the session, the participant’s scores were announced, with Team Erejuwa II celebrating their victory as they received the highest score.
