Summary:
The annual movie day featured the movie Akeelah and the Bee. Participants were captivated by the story, learning new vocabulary and important life lessons from the movie.
Session Delivery:
Excitement was high as participants arrived, eager for movie day. After settling down quickly, the coordinator introduced the movie, Akeelah and the Bee, and encouraged everyone to stay focused and keep a pen and paper handy to jot down new words and key lessons.
The movie follows Akeelah Anderson, a gifted young girl from a challenging background, who discovers her talent for spelling and enters a spelling bee competition. Despite the hardships in her life, Akeelah’s perseverance and determination lead her to success.
Throughout the movie, the participants were fully engrossed, with the hall so quiet that even the faintest sound could be heard. At intervals, Itse Mirabel Ukubeyinje paused the movie to engage the participants in discussions about what they had learned. They confidently shared lessons, such as not letting one’s background limit their potential, the value of teamwork over competition, and the importance of supporting each other.
Omatsola Okpeayaghan followed up by reminding the participants to always believe in themselves, choose friends with good character, and surround themselves with people who support their dreams.
The movie concluded with cheers and excitement as Akeelah won the spelling competition, leaving the participants inspired. They also learned several new words, which helped expand their vocabulary.
