The July ICT session was hands-on, with participants exploring new areas of Information Communication Technology (ICT). The session introduced them to Encarta for Kids, a digital encyclopedia designed specifically for children, giving them a chance to learn new topics in a fun and interactive way.
Session Delivery:
The session began with an opening prayer and the singing of the Itsekiri anthem. As participants settled in, laptops were set up on tables for the day’s activities.
To start, Ani Toju engaged the group in a brief discussion about the previous session’s movie day, where participants enthusiastically shared their enjoyment of Akeelah and the Bee.
Debi Amadedon, the day’s facilitator, introduced a new learning experience, taking a detour from the original syllabus to focus on application software. Having worked with Microsoft Word in previous sessions, the participants were introduced to Encarta for Kids, a digital encyclopedia that allows children to explore various educational topics.
Encarta for Kids is a safe and engaging tool designed specifically for children, covering topics like:
- Science
- History
- Social Studies
- Space Exploration
- Arts & Crafts
- People and Places
As the participants navigated the software, they explored various subjects, including the human body, digestive system, respiratory system, and more. The inclusion of diagrams, pictures, and video clips made the learning experience interactive and engaging. Many of the topics aligned with what they had learned in the classroom, reinforcing their understanding in a digital format.
