Summary:
The session was divided into two parts: an introduction to automation and a personal development session. Both were designed to prepare participants for future growth in technical skills and self-improvement.
Session Delivery:
Part 1: Introduction to Automation
The first part of the session, led by Toju Ani, introduced participants to the concept of automation. Following the opening prayer and the singing of the Itsekiri anthem, he engaged the participants by asking if they had ever seen doors or lights that respond to voice commands or clapping. Many responded that they had seen such things in movies.
Toju then explained that Itsekiri NextGen would soon begin sessions on automation, where the participants would learn how to design objects that respond to commands. He introduced the software they would use for these projects, such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks, which would be installed on their computers. He also mentioned the need for toolkits and Arduino starter kits for hands-on learning.
The participants were visibly excited, eager to create designs like toy cars controlled via mobile phones. They expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming automation sessions and looked forward to seeing their ideas come to life.
Part 2: Personal Development
The second part of the session, facilitated by Jolomi Tedeye, focused on personal growth and self-improvement. Jolomi emphasized the importance of continually developing themselves, especially as Itsekiri NextGen provides them with a platform for this.
Participants were encouraged to work on their communication skills, becoming confident in public speaking. The monthly book review sessions were highlighted as a valuable tool for improving language and self-expression, but Jolomi reminded them not to rest on their laurels—they must keep pushing themselves to improve.
Self-confidence, emotional intelligence, and relationship management were key themes of the session. Jolomi stressed that they should always manage their emotions, as failure to do so could negatively impact relationships. An illustrative skit demonstrated the consequences of transferring aggression, showing how unchecked emotions could hurt others.
Finally, Jolomi advised participants to seek help from trusted individuals, including volunteers, when facing difficulties. He urged them to remain positive and focused on their future, reminding them that they are “leaders in the making.”
