Itsekiri NextGen Project: 2024 Session 37 Report – ICT Session

  • Date: October 12th, 2024
  • Time: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Venue: Former Caravan 4, Aja-Pessu (Pessu Town), Warri
  • Attendees: 63 participants, 6 volunteers
  • Topic: ICT (Robotics)
  • Facilitator: Ani Ogharandukun

Session Summary:

The October ICT session provided participants with a hands-on introduction to the practical applications of robotics. The session focused on building an automated lighting system triggered by sound.

Session Details:

The session began with the unveiling of an Arduino and toolbox, sparking curiosity among the participants. Facilitator Ani Ogharanduku then introduced each tool and explained its function.

The day’s challenge was to create a clap-activated lighting system. Participants, both boys and girls, were allowed to design the system themselves. Under the guidance of the facilitator, they connected the wires, learning the correct placement for each.

The next step involved connecting the device, which would transmit signals to the light bulb, via computer. Unfortunately, the available computers were unable to detect the device, and the light bulb did not respond.

To ensure a successful outcome and maintain the participants’ enthusiasm, the exercise will be completed at the beginning of the next session.

Volunteers:

  • Debi Amadedon
  • Emmanuel Egbe
  • Jolomi Tedeye
  • Ani Toju Ogharanduku
  • Omatsola Okpeayahan
  • Wyse Eworitsemogha

Challenges:

  • The projector malfunctioned.
  • The laptops failed to recognize the device needed to control the light bulb.
