Itsekiri NextGen Project: 2024 Session 43 – Unleashing Creativity with Generative AI
Exploring the World of AI: From Story to Screen
- Date: November 23rd, 2024
- Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Location: Former Caravan 4, Aja-Pessu (Pessu Town), Warri
- Attendees: 70 participants, 4 volunteers
- Activity: Introduction to Generative AI
- Facilitator: Toju Ogharandukun
Session Summary:
This session introduced participants to the exciting world of Generative AI and its potential for creating unique video content, aligning with the Digital Mandate by equipping participants with digital skills and knowledge. It also touched upon the Literary Mandate by encouraging storytelling.
Session Details:
The session began with an opening prayer and the Itsekiri anthem. Laptops were then distributed, preparing everyone for the ICT session.
Toju Ogharandukun introduced the topic, starting with a question about the meaning of “AI.” Laju Faulkner correctly answered “Artificial Intelligence” and received a prize.
The focus then shifted to Generative AI. Rosemary volunteered to share a story she had written. As she narrated, the facilitator entered the story as a prompt into the Generative AI system to create a summary.
Next, a visual content piece was generated from the summarized story, transforming it into a cartoon. The participants were amazed to see a story created by one of their peers come to life as a video almost instantly. This demonstrated the power of Generative AI and its potential for creative expression, directly supporting the Digital Mandate.
This demonstration inspired the participants to write their own stories, eager to see their imaginations transformed into visual content. This activity also contributes to the Literary Mandate by encouraging creative writing.
Due to time constraints, the participants were asked to write their stories at home. The best five stories will be selected and used to generate cartoons. The session concluded with the participants feeling motivated and empowered, realizing their potential to create meaningful content in text, voice, and video formats. This newfound knowledge and skill in using Generative AI directly supports the Digital Mandate’s goal of digital literacy.
