Itsekiri NextGen Project: 2024 Session 44 – Literary Exploration and Moral Lessons with Generative AI

  • Date: November 30th, 2024
  • Time: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Location: Former Caravan 4, Aja-Pessu (Pessu Town), Warri
  • Attendees: 56 participants, 4 volunteers
  • Activity: November Book Review and Generative AI Moral Stories
  • Facilitator: Debi Amadedon

Session Summary:

This session combined the monthly book review with a continuation of the previous week’s exploration of Generative AI, focusing on using AI to share stories with valuable moral lessons. This session addressed both the Literary Mandate (promoting reading culture) and the Social & Cultural Mandate (exploring values and morals).

Session Details:

The session was divided into two segments:

Book Review Segment (Literary Mandate):

Participants selected books of their choice from the librarian and were given 45-60 minutes to read. Following the reading period, participants from each group shared a review of their chosen book. This segment actively promotes reading and encourages critical thinking about literature, aligning directly with the Literary Mandate. The total time dedicated to reading and review was 1.5 hours.

Generative AI Segment (Social & Cultural Mandate):

Continuing the exploration of Generative AI from the previous session, six stories with strong moral themes were shared, and created using the AI tool:

  1. David & Goliath (courage and obedience)
  2. The Life of Job (perseverance)
  3. The Rich Man & The Poor Man (kindness)
  4. Story of Esther (selflessness and service)
  5. Life of Cleopatra (leadership)
  6. Cain & Abel (warning against envy, hate, jealousy, and uncontrolled anger)

Additional stories, including Samson and The Life of Moses, were also shared. Using Generative AI to present these stories provided an engaging way to impart valuable moral lessons, contributing to the Social & Cultural Mandate by promoting positive values and ethical behaviour.
