Book Review Session: Encouraging Young Readers
The participants eagerly gathered to collect their chosen books from Ijeoma, the librarian. In an orderly manner, they proceeded to their seats to read. After sufficient time, Jolomi Tedeye instructed them to form groups for book reviews. The reviews progressed smoothly, with each participant showcasing their understanding of the material.

Kelvin Unokan’s review of “Before I was Born” by Carolyn Nystrom stood out. Using age-appropriate language and engaging illustrations, Kelvin effectively conveyed the book’s key themes, including:
- A clear explanation of the basics of sex
- The physical changes boys and girls experience during growth
Kelvin’s thorough preparation and confident presentation impressed the audience, and he skillfully answered questions while highlighting new vocabulary from the book.
Following Kelvin’s impressive review, the other participants delivered strong presentations as well. To recognize the top performers, Jolomi Tedeye asked the three best presenters to step forward: Ijeoma, Kelvin and Joy. The participants then voted for their favorite presenter, with three out of four teams choosing Kelvin and one team selecting Joy.
Kelvin’s outstanding performance earned him a cash gift, which served as motivation for the other participants to strive for excellence in future book review sessions. The event concluded on a positive note, with everyone leaving feeling motivated and encouraged to continue reading and exploring new books.
