Session Delivery

To commemorate International Day of the Girl Child, Peace Iyebe initiated a thought-provoking discussion. She posed an open-ended question: “Can girls do all jobs?” While some participants hesitated, others confidently affirmed. The facilitator then asked them to list professions they believed girls could or couldn’t pursue. Surprisingly, many thought girls were limited to certain fields, excluding them from careers like mechanics, electrical engineering, carpentry, bricklaying, or even driving.

However, Peace Iyebe enlightened them on the limitless potential of girls. She highlighted their remarkable achievements in various fields, shattering stereotypes. Girls are not only participating but excelling in STEM subjects, medicine, arts, athletics, sports, military, politics, business, and innovation.

Notable Nigerian women were cited as examples, including Funke Opeke, founder and CEO of MainOne, a leading fiber optic cable company; Odunayo Eweniyi, co-founder of Piggybank.ng; Rena Wakama, Nigeria’s first female coach to lead the women’s basketball team to a continental championship; and Kafayat Sanni, the country’s first female fighter pilot.

The discussion concluded with an emphasis on the significance of investing in the girl child. Empowering girls has a ripple effect on society, driving economic growth, healthier communities, and overall development. By recognizing and nurturing their potential, we can unlock a brighter future for all.

Then there was a quiz competition on various professions.
