Summary
The 20th session focused on the review of books by the participants. This is to inculcate the habit of reading in our participants which is in line with our Literary mandate.
Session Delivery
The session began with an opening prayer by one of the participants after which the four teams were divided into two subteams with a book given to each subteam to read, brainstorm on, analyse and learn new words.
We chose this style of book review to boost team spirit and bonding amongst participants. This was a new book review format from the conventional way at Itsekiri NextGen. This was designed to enhance participants’ engagement.
Books given to team Atuwatse II were ‘An upside down magic and Betsy little star’. Eyitemi Ayomike and Besinfe Etuwewe represented this team.
Team ogiame Ikenwoli were given a book titled ‘Super chiller and the drug problem’. Moyowa Pessu and Happy Omomehin ably represented their team.
Team Erejuwa II were given a book titled ‘The mystery of Mrs. Kim and Judy Moody and stink’. Beauty Omomehin and Gift Johnson represented this team.
Team Ginuwa II was given a book titled ‘Grandpa’s little one and Firefighters hug their mum‘. Praise Jolomi Alagba represented this team.
Other participants talked about new words they learned from the book review, as well as the good lessons learnt.
Most of the participants were now willing to come out to talk and express themselves, as against being shy.
To mark the children’s day celebration, the participants came out to give different poems and songs. They all sang along with excitement.
The session concluded with a closing prayer and the Itsekiri national anthem led by Happy Omomehin and everyone sang together.
Other key activities during the session
Participants borrowed books from the Itsekiri NextGen library.
